Add Full-screen Photography to Create Professional PowerPoint Designs

You’ve just finished your presentation for an important conference, but each slide looks like the previous. How do you add the professionalism needed to make your presentation stand out? By introducing full-screen photography, you can increase the audience’s interest and engagement in your presentation as you emphasize key points.

Begin by using a standard template for slides that have a larger amount of text. After you have the content in your presentation, look for opportunities to intersperse full-screen photos where you have a smaller amount of information that doesn’t take up as much real estate on screen. Photos will add a visual break from the static template. As you add full-screen images to your presentation, you may need to break up slides that have too much content and spread it across multiple slides. This will create visual interest for the audience, as well as help the presenter’s pacing.

Choose images that convey the general idea of your points. Photos that can convey the concept visually will compliment the text and help the audience quickly find meaning. As you select your photos, be sure they have “negative space,” also called dead space or white space. This is an area that is empty and provides room for your text. There should be plenty of empty space around your text so it doesn’t look too crowded. You can find a nice variety of images through online stock photo libraries.

After purchasing your photos, re-size them using photo editing software, such as Photoshop. You may also need to adjust the image’s brightness to provide the optimal contrast for text placed on top of it. If you are using a light-colored font, then you may need to darken the negative space to make sure your audience can easily read your text when it’s placed over the photo.

Add more interest with varying font sizes. After you’ve inserted the finished photo in your presentation, consider splitting the slide’s text into several different blocks. Then, choose different font sizes to add interest. Using two different font sizes will allow you to emphasize a point by contrasting it with a smaller point. Use the same fonts style and color with your photo slides as you have used on the regular template slides to create consistency.

Adding full screen images will help you create professional PowerPoint designs, engage you audience, and help you draw attention to specific content.
